Customer Guidance: Caring for Wooden furniture

CARING FOR SOLID WOOD FURNITURE

How to keep your solid wooden furniture looking gorgeous

We are often asked by our customers, what are the best ways to keep their new furniture clean and looking great. Below we’ve outlined our top tips on how to do this.

  • Always wipe your surface clean with a LIGHTLY damp soft cloth and thoroughly dry the surface afterwards
  • Don’t use abrasive sponges or chemicals or cleaners as these remove surface oils
  • Use place mats and coasters as much as possible to protect the surface from heat and liquids and consider protective coverings for messy activities

Always clean your table top by gently wiping down with a slightly damp cloth dipped in warm water and thoroughly squeezed then wipe again with a dry soft cloth to remove any moisture.

Another method is to use a silicone free furniture wax spray, spraying the contents onto a soft cloth then wiping entire surface. Do not to spray directly on to the table top. Then buff to finish . (SEE BELOW for grey and white wash surfaces)

We finish most of our furniture with a high quality ecological product called TREATEX hard wax oil. This product is 100% ecological and is made from a mixture of natural oils and waxes. For GREY-WASH & WHITE-WASH finishes, please see advice below.

To every surface we apply 3 coats of TREATEX. At some point in the future, perhaps in a year or so, you may wish to re-coat using this product. You can follow the advise on the link below, where you will also find a variety of products they offer to maintain your furniture over time. We recommend using their Wax Polish for maintenance.

FOR ALL NON-UK residents

Look for a locally made HARD WAX OIL in place of Treatex. This is a great natural protection solution, and we highly recommend it.

For GREY & WHITE WASH

We recommend to clean your table with a soft cloth and warm water (don't use abrasive sponges or strong chemicals on it), squeeze out as much water as possible and wipe dry.

We finished your table with 2 coats of hard wearing, water based matt furniture varnish

Depending on use, you may wish to re-coat your surface once a year or so. It really depends on how much you use it, how you protect it and if you are happy with a more "used" look.

To re-coat, slightly sand the surface with 120-150grit sand paper. Wipe clean with a lightly damp cloth and when dry apply 2 coats of interior varnish (a good one could be Ronseal clear satin or matt, whichever you prefer)

Finally sand with 800grit very gently and buffer with a dry cloth!
